Biography

Matthew Baity, Ph.D. is a Professor of the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology PsyD Program on the Sacramento Campus. He received his doctorate in 2003 from the University of Arkansas and completed his internship and post-doctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. After obtaining licensure, Dr. Baity was a staff psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for four years before joining Alliant in 2008.

A core interest that has run throughout Dr. Baity's training and career has been assessment. Although initially focused on the validity of specific tests with personality disorders, he quickly developed an appreciation for working with the broad range of severe mental illnesses seen in hospital settings. His training in the Therapeutic Assessment Model and early work on a psychodynamic psychotherapy research team in graduate school generated interests in the therapeutic alliance and using assessment to predict early treatment termination.

He received extensive training in personality and neuropsychological assessment at Massachusetts General Hospital both in an outpatient clinic, and as part of the Psychiatry Consult-Liaison Team on inpatient medical floors. Once on staff, Dr. Baity remaining years at the hospital included continuing his assessment practice, seeing patients for both long and short-term psychotherapy in the hospital outpatient clinic and outpatient substance abuse clinic, and doing individual and group therapy with the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Team.
